If you run a local business, you don't have time to agonise over which of ten draft posts to use this week. AI is very good at that job. It's less good at knowing what makes your business yours. Here's how to split the work.
What AI does well
- Spotting weak posts. Vague headlines, a picture that doesn't match the words, text that's hard to read on a phone. A good AI helper catches these in seconds.
- Checking the look. Is the logo readable? Is the photo blurry or off-topic? Does it use your colours? These are quick visual checks that are easy to skip when you're busy.
- Spreading posts out. Two to three posts a week, on the days and times your customers scroll, is easy for software and tedious for people.
- Keeping to your rules. If you never mention prices, or you're closed on Sundays, an AI that remembers those rules applies them every time.
What you should keep for yourself
- Your stories. The job you finished yesterday, the customer who sent a thank-you card. AI can write them up, but only you know them.
- Offers and promises. Never let any tool invent a discount or a guarantee. Tell it the real offer and the end date.
- The final say on anything public. Keep an approval step, at least until you trust what you're seeing.
A 10-minute weekly routine
- Monday: ask your AI helper to go through the week's drafts and keep the best three.
- Glance at its choices. Read the headlines, check the pictures. Swap one if something feels off.
- Tell it one new thing. An offer, a closed day, a job you're proud of. It will use it in next week's posts.
- Let the calendar do the rest.
Watch it work, don't just trust it
The best AI tools show their work. In Porchlight, our helper Wick drags each post left or right in front of you, says why it kept or passed it, and redesigns posts with a good idea but a weak look. Every change has an Undo. If a tool makes changes you can't see or reverse, be careful.
The bottom line
Let AI do the sorting, checking and scheduling. Keep the stories, offers and final say for yourself. That's how you post consistently without sounding like everyone else.
Want to try it? Wick comes with Porchlight's paid plans, and you can start with your website in a couple of minutes.
